Blow Up
Photo print, approx. 30" x 22"
Using childhood photos chosen by the artist's mother, tiny sections no more than two centimeters wide were extracted and printed on a large scale. The images in the photos were not edited, rather, all imperfections were kept and seen as essential. It is within these imperfections one finds meaning - not only is the nature of memory highlighted but its organization. The photos come straight from scrapbooks, which serve as ornate clusters of organized memory; having the photos chosen by another removes some of the artist's agency in choosing memories of import.
